So it's time for another progress post. I'll also be talking about future planning because why not...
Hello everyone, here's a fill in because it's been quiet for a bit. Bionic 1.3.0 Alpha has been out for a couple of weeks, and I have been putting new things together for Bionic.
First of all, the picture above shows the new particles I added for hitting players. I gave it a nice zap sound effect as well. Bots can't see through smoke grenades, and incendiary grenades are less buggy.
Most guns will have a new zoom-in feature. Something I want to keep away from doing is ADS (aim down sights), because it's a trend that doesn't mix with the shooting gameplay that I'm aiming for ;). Zooming in is only used to make distant players easier to see and shoot at. While zoomed in you get a tiny movement penalty and accuracy is not boosted.
Something I've wanted to add to Bionic for a long time is the option to customize game mode and weapon settings. A good example of what I mean is Halo custom games, where players can create completely diverse game types to play in. The problem here is that I still need to create many game modes, and create variables and menus for customizing them.
Additionally, the option to use custom maps in Bionic would give players plenty of freedom and creativity. I hope that players will eventually be able to upload a map file (.obj) and play on it in their servers! I've been testing out my options and it seems that I could have community maps in the future. This will add on to being able to customize game modes.
However, I think I will need a while to make these larger features fit together correctly, with the time I have. Game development is merely a hobby for me that I wish I had more time for. I hope to perhaps release a minor update this weekend, and have these features in a later major update.
That's mostly what I needed to say. I like making posts like these every now and then, but I also want to ask a few questions. What do you guys think about a concept page for Bionic on Steam? Are there any Steam users interested in supporting? More importantly, what is something you believe should be added into Bionic? Please comment what you think :D
